The New York University women's track & field team participated in the Villanova Open on Friday, January 27, held in the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY.

There was no team scoring.

Stretching her game out, freshman Evelyn Nkanga captured first place in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 11.22m. Junior Brianna Yee followed in seventh with a distance of 10.02m.

"The best performance of the day was from Evelyn," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "Evelyn jumped really well today, putting herself 17th in the country. She has a lot of potential going forward."

Senior captain Simone Cooper cleared a career-best 5.04m in her first long jump of the season, finishing fourth out of 12 jumpers.

As the sole representative of the Violets in the 800m, sophomore Anastasia Filimontseva placed fifth with a time of 2:26.34.

Justine Morris took part in the mile for the first time this season, coming in ninth with a time of 5:34.33.

Freshman Tara Verma launched her collegiate career with a 17th-place finish in the 400m (1:05.95). Junior Alexa Goldman finished at her heels in 18th, recording a time of 1:06.47. Also competing in her first collegiate event was Laina Michel, who posted a time of 1:09.94 to place 21st.
