Emory Track & Field Teams Up with Pack-a-Snack

From Emory University Athletics

Sophomore Nicole Steiner writes about the Emory University Track and Field team's recent community service experience with Pack-a-Snack.

On Thursday night (January 11th), 25 members of the Emory track and field team joined with a team of local volunteers to make a difference.

Every Thursday night, the volunteer group of Pack-a-Snack comes together on the Emory campus to make meal bags for women and children who don't have enough to eat in a week. The track team had no idea what they were getting into, but from the moment they stepped in the door they saw bins upon bins of various items being towed by kind and smiling volunteers. The contents of the bins ranged from milk cartons and granola bars to fresh fruits and Christmas goodies. The Emory track and field athletes had no trouble joining in the assembly line, filling and tying up bags upon bags of food. Those who worked with Pack-a-Snack regularly thanked the track team for their efforts, but the gratitude appeared to be mutual — nearly all of the track and field athletes asked if they could give their contract information to Pack-a-Snack, so they could come again to volunteer a little bit of their time and energy to help feed the women and children in need, once again.
