he No. 6-ranked Emory volleyball team opened its National
Invitational Friday afternoon with a victory over South Region foe
Berry College. The Eagles won their fourth straight and upped
their overall record to 29-3 following a 3-0 decision (25-17,
25-18, 25-14) over the Vikings who slipped to 14-14
Emory hit .326 (43-12—95) in the match while Berry
registered a mark of .162 (31-15—99).
Sophomore Kathryn Trinka led the Emory
attack with a match-high 11 kills, her seventh outing of the season
with double figures, while registering a fine .417 hitting
percentage (11-1—24). Also playing key roles in the
triumph were sophomore Jessica Holler with
nine terminations and a pair of block solos and
senior Cat McGrath with eight kills, a
hitting mark of .438 (8-1—16) and three block assists.
The Eagles concluded the contest with a 45-34 edge in digs and were
led in that category by Kate Bowman's
dozen.
