From Emory University Athletics
The No. 6-ranked Emory volleyball team got off to a strong
start at the University Athletic Association Championships Friday
afternoon, registering a decisive win over the Rochester. The
Eagles captured their seventh straight triumph and boosted their
overall record to 32-3 following a 3-0 outcome over the
Yellowjackets who slipped to 16-18.
For the 33rd time this season,
Emory finished with an advantage in hitting percentage, compiling a
.308 mark (34-10—78) compared to UR's -.047 (19-23—86),
the fourth time this year an Eagle opponent concluded a match with
a negative attack mark.
Sophomore Jessica Holler led all
players with nine kills while registering a .412 hitting
performance (9-2—17). Holler also kept Rochester off
balance with her serving, totaling five of Emory's season-high 13
service aces. Sophomore Sarah Maher hit .500
on the strength of eight kills with just one error in 14 swings,
while senior Leach Jacobs also tallied eight successful attack
attempts en route to a .412 hitting performance (8-1—17).
Junior setter Sydney Miles dished out 27
assists and chipped in four digs in the contest while
senior Kate Bowman finished with a
match-high 13 digs that enabled her to move into the No. 1 spot on
the program's all-time list with 1,326, surpassing the previous
standard of 1,321 held by Maggie Ramm (2004-07).
