From NYU Athletics

MaTia Hughes of the New York University women's volleyball team was selected by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as the Division III Metro/Upstate Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday, December 17.

In addition, the sophomore libero was also honored as an ECAC First Team All-Star. This comes just over a month after she was recognized as an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-American.

Hughes was already named Second Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA). She led NYU in digs (606), digs per set (4.77) and sets played (127). Additionally, she was the only member of the team to appear in all 38 matches.

The Atlanta, GA, native was named ECAC Libero of the Week four times this season. She was also named to the NYU Labor Day All-Invitational Team, the New Paltz Hawks Invitational All-Tournament Team, the NYU Violet All-Classic Team, and earned UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week honors once.

Hughes helped lead the Violets to a 20-18 record in 2014.
