Washington University in St. Louis junior middle hitter Caroline Dupont was named to the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Volleyball Second Team, as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Dupont is just the eighth individual in WashU volleyball history to earn Academic All-America honors, joining Chris Becker (1986), Amy Sullivan (1992, 1993), Amy Albers (1993, 1994), Shelley Swan (1995), Jennifer Martz (1998), Alli Alberts (2008), and Marilee Fisher (2011, 2012). One of nine underclassmen on the 2015 Academic All-America Teams, Dupont holds a 3.56 GPA while majoring in math with minors in Spanish and economics.
A three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American, Dupont earned second-team accolades this season after being a first-team honoree in 2013 and an honorable mention selection in 2014. She earned All-Central Region First-Team honors for the third year in a row in 2015, while also being named to the All-UAA Second Team. Dupont was named to the all-tournament team at the NCAA Thousand Oaks, Calif. Regional, as well as at the ASICS Invite and the Emory National Invitational.
Dupont finished second in NCAA Division III with a .413 hitting percentage, and also led WashU with 372 kills. She finished second on the team with 35 aces and 94 blocks. Dupont joined the 1,000-kill club during WashU's win at Westminster College (Mo.) Oct. 20, finishing her junior season ranked 20th in school history with 1,094 career kills. She will also enter her final collegiate season ranked 10th on WashU's career block assists leaderboard with 264.
In order to be selected to the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, and be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing.
