Molly Higgins of Tartans Named ECAC South Defensive Player of the Year

 Junior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Defensive Player of the Year. Joining Higgins on the ECAC All-Star squad is junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), a first-team honoree, and junior setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) on the second team.
    
Higgins, an honorable mention American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-North Region honoree, led the UAA with 737 digs for a 5.58 digs-per-game average, with her 737 digs standings as a single-season program record. The junior had double-digit digs in 35 matches this season, including 18 of 20 digs or more.  Higgins finished the year with 32 service aces with a career-best five coming in the Tartans' win over Point Park.

Gibbons became the school's fifth AVCA All-America honoree this past season.  She appeared in all 134 sets played during the regular season, marking the third straight season she has done so. She led the team with a hitting percentage of .349, which ranked fifth in the UAA, along with 364 kills and 2.72 kills per game.  The junior finished second on the team with 81 blocks and 33 service aces. She tallied a career-best 18 kills in the Tartans' victory over nationally ranked Mount Union.  On 21 occasions this season Gibbons recorded double-digit kills.  

Newton led the team with 1,278 assists which ranked third in the UAA and ninth on the school's single-season assist chart.  The junior also led the team with 51 service aces, which was tops in the association.  In the Tartans win against nationally-ranked Chicago, Newton tallied a career-best 54 assists.
