Yellowjackets Storm Back from 0-2 Down to Top St. John Fisher

Rochester stormed back from an 0-2 deficit in games to post a 3-2 victory over St. John Fisher in women's volleyball at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Friday night.
 
The win over Fisher followed a 3-0 victory over Houghton College, 25-19, 25-18, 25-16. Rochester is 2-0 in the tournament heading into Saturday matches against SUNY Geneseo (which is 1-0 in the field) and SUNY Oswego (1-1).
 
Overall, Rochester is 4-2. St. John Fisher is 4-3 with the loss, and Houghton is 3-5. The Highlanders bounced back from the loss to Rochester to defeat Oswego, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-19).
 
In the other Friday matches, Oswego defeated Hamilton, 25-18, 25-11, 21-25, 16-25, 15-6 and Geneseo defeated Hamilton, 25-15, 25-14, 25-19.
 
On Saturday at 11 am, Rochester plays Geneseo in the Palestra. Houghton faces Hamilton and St. John Fisher meets Oswego in the Goergen Center Fieldhouse. The 1 pm matches show Oswego vs. Rochester in the Palestra, Hamilton vs. St. John Fisher, and Geneseo vs. Houghton.
 
The Yellowjackets sharpened their hitting skills dramatically in the last three games vs. the Cardinals to pull out the victory. Rochester hit -11% in game one, 5% in game two. The Yellowjackets hit 23% in game three, 32% in game four, and 44% in game five.
 
Holding a slim 6-4 lead in game three, Rochester scored five straight points with Aimee Kohler contributing the last three. She had a solo block, a kill, and a block assists (with Emma Gira). The UR lead was 17-9 after a kill by Anna Marcy. Rochester answered with a 5-1 run with Gira getting two kills.
 
The Yellowjackets moved in front 7-1 early in game four. Shira Katz had two kills. In the deciding game five, Rochester scored the first 10 points.
 
Jennie Ford and Gira had 16 kills apiece. Ford added three aces. Gira had two aces and six blocks. Alexandra Goldman had five kills. Kohler had 34 assists and three blocks. Meghan Connor had two aces and 12 digs. Nina Baek had two blocks and 11 digs. Ashley Hunter had 27 digs.
 
For Fisher, Anna Marcy had seven kills, 11 digs, and four assists. Meghan Stonebarger had 20 assists and 10 digs. Katie Mazierski had six kills and 17 digs.
 
Rochester pulled away in game one of the Houghton match, scoring six of the final eight points. Ford finished with 10 kills, five aces, and 13 digs. The Yellowjackets had 15 aces as a team.
 
Alexandra Nelligan had nine kills and two blocks. Gira finished with six kills and two blocks. Baek had five aces and five kills. Kohler had 30 assists, three aces, and five kills. Hunter had 22 digs and Connor had seven.
 
Anna Coryell had 17 assists and 10 digs for Houghton. Kayla Bernard had 12 digs. Hattie Burgher finished with six kills.
