Spartans Split on Day One of UAA Round Robin #2 With Win Over Brandeis

On the first day of the University Athletic Association Round Robin #2, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split, with a win over Brandeis University and a loss to No. 16 Washington (Mo.) University.

The second UAA Round Robin is hosted by Brandeis University at the Auerback Arena in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The Spartans improve to 15-6 overall and 2-3 in the UAA, while the Judges are now 7-12 overall and 0-5 in the UAA and the Bears record is now 14-7 overall and 4-1 in the UAA.

CWRU defeated Brandeis in straight sets 25-13, 25-20 and 25-16.

Freshman outside hitter Brianna Lemon led the Spartans with eight kills and senior outside hitter Marian Barton and freshman outside hitter Karley King each contributed seven kills to the attack. Sophomore setter Shannon Carroll recorded 28 assists. Defensively, sophomore libero Karina Bondelid and sophomore defensive specialist Noel Jeansonne each tallied six digs.

Against the Bears, CWRU fell 25-19, 25-18 and 25-19.

In the hard-fought battle, Lemon led the Spartans with 14 kills, while Carroll added 24 assists. Bondelid led the defensive rally with 14 digs with Carroll adding 10.
