Emory Posts Wins Over Intra-City Foes

The No. 5-ranked Emory volleyball team ran its win streak to 14 matches Tuesday evening after posting victories over a pair of intra-city opponents. The Eagles recorded 3-0 decisions over Oglethorpe University (25-13, 25-18, 25-15) and Agnes Scott College (25-6, 25-9, 25-9), raising their record to 18-3.

Emory hit .243 (44-18—107) in the Oglethorpe match compared to the Stormy Petrels' effort of .067 (16-11—75). The Eagles enjoyed a 43-29 edge in digs and doled out a season-high tying 10 service aces, five coming from sophomore Becky Breuer, who also topped the club with 14 digs. Offensively, freshman Sara Carr paced all players with a season-high 10 kills. Sophomore Karissa Dzurik chipped in eight terminations and finished with a .375 attack percentage (8-2—16).

Emory established a program record with a .667 hitting percentage in the Agnes Scott match-up, eclipsing the previous standard of .651 against New York University in October of 2005.  The Eagles pounded out 40 kills with just two miscues in 57 swings against the Scotties who finished with a -.130 percentage (10-17—54). Eleven players found their way into the kills column, led by Carr's nine successful put-aways. Dzurik registered six kills while sophomore Yasmeen Johnson tallied five. Junior Hannah Billings dished out 24 assists over two sets while freshman Sarah Porter doled out 10 in one game.
