Emory Names Brianna Jones Assistant Coach

From Emory University Athletics

Emory University head volleyball coach Jenny McDowell  has announced the appointment of Brianna Jones as assistant coach.  Jones replaces former assistant, Joe Goodson, who recently accepted the head coaching position at Oglethorpe University.

Jones spent the 2016 season as a graduate assistant coach at NCAA Division II member Columbus State University. Among her duties with the Cougars included assisting with practice plans, recruiting, scouting reports, budget and compliance.

Prior to joining the CSU program, Jones played collegiately for Georgia State during the 2014 and 2015 campaigns.  While at GSU, she was recognized as a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll on two occasions.  She began her collegiate playing career with a two-year (2012 & 2013) stint at Pfeiffer University.  As a sophomore, she was chosen to the All-Conference Carolinas Second Team, and established a program record with 26 kills against Limestone. She averaged 3.04 kills per set for the Falcons her final year with the program.

Jones is familiar with the club volleyball scene both locally and throughout the region.  She has served as the head coach for the Colavol Volleyball Club in Columbus, Ga., while assisting with the A5 and Tsunami Clubs in Atlanta.

"I am excited that Brianna will be joining our staff on a full-time basis," said McDowell. "Bri was a volunteer coach for us last spring and did a fantastic job.  She understands our culture and our drive for excellence.  She is passionate about the game of volleyball, with her energy and drive to be the best in all facets of her life attributes that she will transfer to our players."

A native of nearby Dunwoody, Jones earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Pfeiffer in 2014. At Georgia State, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 2016.  She is in the process of working on her Master's Degree in public administration from Columbus State.
