From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics
The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team, ranked sixth nationally, opened play at the Eastern University Quad with a 3-0 win over the host Eagles Friday night. The Tartans won by the scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-13 to improve to 26-2 while Eastern is now 18-10.
Juniors Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) and Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) led the Tartans with nine kills apiece. Senior Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), who hit .468, ended with six kills. Sophomore Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) handed out 20 assists with junior Amanda Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins) adding 10.
At the net, Jurgens along with sophomore Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) tallied a career-best in block assists. Jurgens had eight and Aqui had six along with one block solo. Sophomore Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) kept her double-digit dig streak intact with 10 digs to lead the Tartans. Her streak now stands at 33 matches dating back to last season.
