CWRU Earns Perfect 3-0 Weekend at Bengal Challenge

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team went 2-0 on the second day of the Bengal Challenge hosted by Buffalo State in Buffalo, New York after defeating Fredonia State 3-0 and Buffalo State 3-1, finishing the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Spartans improved to 8-3 for the 2017 season.

In a tight match against Fredonia, CWRU won in straight sets 25-17, 25-23 and 25-21.

Freshman right side hitter Fabiola Torres and sophomore outside hitter Karley King led the Spartan attack with eight kills, while sophomore middle hitter Haley Sims added seven. Freshman setter Jiayi Shen tallied 18 assists and sophomore setter Faith Ellis registered 10. Defensively, junior libero Noel Jeansonne recorded 10 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemon and freshman outside hitter Anna Jaskoviak each recorded nine digs.

After winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-14, CWRU dropped the third set 25-18. The Spartans fought back to win the fourth set 25-18.

Lemon paced the attack with 16 kills and freshman outside hitter Bailey Hagedorn contributed six to the Spartan total. Ellis and Shen set up the Spartan offense again, recording 21 and 17 assists, respectively. Freshman outside hitter Jana Giaquinto tallied a team-high 10 digs.
