CWRU Completes Sweep at Marcia French Invitational; Improves to 5-2

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team earned two more wins at home on Saturday, defeating North Carolina Wesleyan College 3-0 in the early match and John Carroll University 3-0 in the late affair to complete a perfect 3-0 weekend at the Marcia French Invitational.

The University of Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace University were named co-champions of the 19th-Annual Marcia French Invite, as they both went 4-0 throughout the tournament.

Sophomore outside hitter Karley King was named the Spartans representative on the All-Tournament team, after recording 23 kills during the three matches. She added five digs and one block assist, while hitting .325.

The Spartans opened the day with a 25-15, 25-10 and 25-20 win over the Battling Bishops, paced by sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemon's 14-kill match. King added nine kills on 21 attacks during the match for a .286 hitting percentage, while sophomore setter Faith Ellis and freshman setter Jiayi Shen registered 21 and 15 assists, respectively. Defensively, Lemon led the squad with 13 digs, while sophomore libero Christine Tamura contributed 12 to the team total.

N.C. Wesleyan dropped to 1-3 on the season with the loss.

In the second match of the day against John Carroll, the Spartans earned a 3-0 win, 25-12, 25-15 and 26-24. Lemon once again paced the team with 19 kills. Ellis and Lemon each contributed 10 digs, and Ellis also collected 21 more assists.

With the loss, the Blue Streaks fell to 2-6 overall in 2017.
