Spartans Split at Heidelberg

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split a pair of matches in Tiffin, Ohio on Saturday, defeating Marietta College 3-2, but falling to Heidelberg University 3-0.

The Spartans improve to 16-10 on the season, while Marietta drops to 11-15 and Heidelberg moves to 14-11 overall.

CWRU defeated the Pioneers in the first match of the day 25-9, 16-25, 17-25, 25-16 and 15-6. The Spartans performance was highlighted by 11 service aces throughout the five sets.

Freshman middle blocker Katie Kaminski led the Spartans with 15 kills, while freshman outside hitter Anna Jaskoviak collected 13. Sophomore Faith Ellis led the team with 48 assists and five service aces. Defensively, junior libero Karina Bondelid recorded a team-high 17 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Brianna Lemontallied 11.

CWRU then fell to Heidelberg in the second match of the day, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-21.

Lemon paced the Spartans on the attack with a team-best 12 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Karley King added eight to the tally. Ellis led the team with 22 assists, while freshman Jiayi Shen tallied 11. Lemon led the Spartan defense with 15 digs, while Bondelid contributed eight.
