Maroons Take Down Concordia Chicago and North Park

The University of Chicago volleyball team wrapped up action at Aurora University's Jim Coleman Memorial Tournament on Saturday with a pair of wins.

The No. 15-ranked Maroons improved to 22-6.

UChicago 3, Concordia Chicago 0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-12)

Audrey Scrafford was an offensive force all the way through the first match of the day. The junior outside hitter blasted 14 kills and could not be contained by the block, swinging at a .542 clip overall.

Scrafford helped spark several runs for UChicago. A 7-2 surge midway through the opening set created separation, which included three kills from Scrafford. She then put up four-straight points in a 10-2 run that closed out the second set. The Maroons finished off the sweep with a 9-1 run that put them up 13-5 in the third set, and the team cruised from there.

UChicago dominated offensively, setting a new season high with a .363 hitting percentage that included only four attack errors all match. On the other side, the Cougars (18-14 record) were limited to a .010 hitting percentage.

Junior rightside hitter Sarah Muisenga was second on the team in kills with 10 while adding seven digs. Freshman setter Emma Griffith racked up 31 assists and a team-high 11 digs. Senior outside hitter Frances McDonald collected nine digs defensively.

UChicago 3, North Park 1 (29-31, 25-19, 25-13, 25-14)

The final match of the weekend started with an epic first set that went past 30 points. UChicago had several set points in hand, but North Park rallied and stole the game, 31-29.

As the match went on, the Maroons asserted their will and steadily pulled away from the Vikings. After tying the match in the second set (25-19), UChicago took an 8-3 lead in the third set, en route to a 25-13 win. The squad then closed out the four-set victory at 25-14.

The Maroons hit .317 for the match versus .149 by North Park. UChicago controlled the net with 10 blocks, which included eight block assists from sophomore middle hitter Madison Pearson.

Scrafford kept rolling with 20 kills and a .410 hitting percentage. Muisenga put together a double-double of 14 kills and 16 digs to go with three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Anabella Pinton registered 12 kills.

Griffith set a new career high with 52 assists. She also added 10 digs and three blocks on defense. Sophomore libero Anne Marie Stifter tallied 20 digs.
