Chicago Stretches Win Streak to 10 With 3-0 Win Over Otterbein

The University of Chicago women's volleyball team won its 10th-straight match with a 3-0 triumph against Otterbein University on Friday at the Elmhurst College Quadrangular.

The No. 16-ranked Maroons moved to 16-3 and the Cardinals fell to 18-2.

UChicago 3, Otterbein 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18)

The first set played out closely and halfway through, the score was tied 16-16. UChicago then made a critical run and reeled off five-straight points which included three kills in-a-row. The Maroons soon grabbed the opener 25-20.

UChicago led wire-to-wire in the second set, building up leads of 7-3 and 15-10. The advantage swelled up to seven points and an attack error finished off the game 25-19. The offense held sway by hitting .400 in the set.

Otterbein briefly edged ahead 9-8 in the third set, but the Maroons immediately embarked on a 10-1 streak. The Cardinals struggled to convert their swings and hit a mere .036 in the set with one more kill than errors.

Two service aces by sophomore libero Anne Marie Stifter and a kill by junior rightside hitter Sarah Muisenga closed out the match, 25-18.

UChicago received nine kills apiece from Muisenga, junior outside hitter Audrey Scrafford and sophomore outside hitter Anabella Pinton. Sophomore middle hitter Madison Pearson posted seven kills on 11 attempts while adding two block assists.

Freshman setter Emma Griffith posted 31 assists, six digs and two block assists. Stifter compiled 14 digs and two aces.

The Maroons hit .310 in the match as a team – their third-highest percentage of the season. Otterbein was limited to a .124 hitting percentage.
