The University of Chicago volleyball team bounced back from a loss to #14 Gustavus-Adolphus with a three-set sweep over host Wisconsin-Eau Claire to split the final day of the 2017 Nike/Eastbay Fall Classic Saturday.
The Maroons (7-3) completed a 2-1 weekend after defeating Concordia-Moorehead Friday, 3-0.
Junior right side Sarah Muisenga and rookie setter Emma Griffith were selected to the All-Tournament team for their performances over the weekend.
UCHICAGO 3, WISCONSIN EAU-CLAIRE 0
Led by three players with 13 kills apiece and a blistering offense, the Maroons defeated the host Blugolds (5-6) by scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-21.
Audrey Scrafford, Anabella Pinton and Sarah Muisenga all hit the 13-kill mark for UChicago, with Scrafford hitting a blistering .400 and Pinton not far behind with a .393 clip.
Pinton added 11 digs and freshman setter Emma Griffith delivered 41 assists and had eight digs. Also hitting double-figures was libero Anne Marie Stifter, who had a team-best 12 digs.
At the net, Madeleine Bol had three block assists and Scrafford had two to lead the way for the Maroons, who recorded a crisp .311 attack percentage compared to .246 for UWEC.
#14 GUSTAVUS-ADOLPHUS 3, UCHICAGO 0
The Maroons took the No. 14th-ranked team in NCAA Division III to the brink in the final set, but Gustavus-Adolphus hung on to complete a close, three-set victory over UChicago in Saturday's opener, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 29-27.
Annabella Pinton and Sarah Muisenga each had nine kills, Emma Griffith dished out 31 assists and the trio added double-digit numbers in assists with 12, 16, and 13, respectively.
Madeleine Bol was a force at the net, recording two solo blocks and one block assist and Madison Pearson added five kills and two block assists.
G-A outhit the Maroons with a .235 clip compared to a .159 attack percentage for UChicago.
Also contributing to UChicago's defense was Anne Marie Stifter with nine digs and Katherine Wilson had eight in the setback.
