From NYU Athletics

New York University's 11th-ranked women's volleyball team defeated Susquehanna University in straight sets on Tuesday night at the John A. Paulson Center for the Violets' seventh consecutive victory.

NYU improved to 7-1, racing out to the win streak after dropping the season opener while six of the seven wins have come in straight sets.

The Violets ran away with a 25-12 win in set one but had to come back to take the second (25-21) and third (25-15). NYU hit .727 in the opening frame, led by Grace Nelson recording five of her match-high-tying nine kills in the set.

"The team did a really good job with the scouting report in the first set, hitting .727 with no errors," said head coach Andrew Brown. "But, Susquehanna is well coached and made really good adjustments in the second set and came out with more aggression."

Set two saw the River Hawks jump out to a 14-4 lead before the Violets used a 13-3 run to tie the score 17-17. NYU didn't trail for the rest of the second as Lauren Scheffler finished things off with one of her career-high six kills.

"After settling down and making some adjustments on our side, our team did a good job of controlling the controllables," Brown said of the second-set comeback.

Susquehanna once again held an early lead in the third, 8-4, but NYU responded with a 6-2 spurt to tie the score 10-10 and never trailed again. From there, the Violets closed the match on a 15-5 run including aces from four different servers to secure the sweep.

"Third set was a battle and the team played with poise and confidence and was able to keep a 3-0 sweep," Brown added.

Nelson hit .438 for her nine kills with two aces, a dig and a block. Camille Nazor finished with seven kills (.312), five blocks and three digs.

Scheffler hit .357 en route to her career high in kills while adding a pair of blocks and an assist. Elise Curtin filled the stat sheet with five kills (.571), five blocks, two aces and a dig.

Leela Anvekar also had five total blocks to go along with a pair of kills (.400). Ava Launsbach dished out a team-high 16 assists in addition to four digs and two aces.

Dominique Drust also had double-digit assists (13) and three aces of her own. Lindsey Hirano posted a match-high 14 digs, two aces and two assists.
