Five Tartans Earn All-Academic Honors From USTFCCCA

Five members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team were named to the All-Academic team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Seniors Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Hailey Brown (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville) and Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), along with juniors Haley Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) and Liz Snyder (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) received the honor for the 2014 competition year. Brown earns the award for a second year.

Snyder paced the Tartans to a seventh-place finish at the Mideast Regionals as she crossed the finish line sixth overall.

Brown completed her degree a semester early and finished with a 3.68 cumulative GPA as a biology major who earned a 4.0 in the fall semester. Bayer also earned a 4.0 in the fall and holds a 3.94 cumulative GPA as a psychology major while Kiekhaefer carries a 3.85 GPA in global studies and hispanic studies. Snyder is a technical writing major with a 3.88 GPA as Bryant boasts a 3.65 in human and computer interaction and professional writing.

The team earned honors sporting a 3.42 cumulative average and has been honored since the USTFCCCA began the All-Academic program.

The USTFCCCA All-Academic award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average and must have finished among the top 25 percent of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet.
