Rochester Places 11th At Regionals, Catherine Knox Qualifies For Nationals

From University of Rochester Athletics

Junior Catherine Knox turned in a career best performance for the University of Rochester women's cross country team, earning 10th place at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Genesee Valley Park.

St. Lawrence narrowly edged SUNY Geneseo for the team title, winning by just one point 50 to 51.  Oneonta St. was 3rd with 120, SUNY Cortland 4th (189) and Ithaca (210) rounded out the top five.

Knox was 10th of 272 runners and guarantees her spot into the NCAA Division III Championships next week in Mason, Ohio.  She earned that spot by virtue of her being the 3rd runner from a non-NCAA qualifying team (SLU and Geneseo).   The junior posted a personal best 6k time of 21:58.6.

The second UR runner was junior Anya Joynt who posted a time of 23:10.4, good for 54th place.  Senior Alyssa Arre ran a personal best time of 23:17.3 in a 58th place run as the 3rd UR finisher.

Brianna Loughran was 63rd following her time of 23:31.3.  She was joined by senior Jennifer Klemenz in 110th (24:06.0) to round out the Yellowjacket scoring.

UR's displacers in the race were senior Kathryn Woodworth (24:18.6, 124th) and sophomore Audrey McCarthy (25:42.9, 186th).

The overall race winner was Stevens' Amy Regan who was a runaway winner in 21:05.8.  She was over 21 seconds clear of the second place finisher.
