NYU Places Sixth at Metro Championship

The New York University women's cross country team finished in sixth place at the Metropolitan Championship, which was held on Friday, October 9, at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, NY.

NYU, the only NCAA Division III team in the race, totaled 192 points, finishing just behind St. John's University (125) and ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson University (242). Rutgers University won the 5k competition with 61 points.  


Senior co-captain Sarah Sisk was the first Violet to cross the finish line, taking 29th place in a time of 20:08.8. Overall, 122 runners competed.

The next pair of NYU runners finished together, as sophomore Hannah Haley (20:33.1) and seniorBecky Turlip (20:34.7), took 38th and 39th place, respectively. 

"We had a lot of people run well," said Head Coach Will Boylna-Pett. "I think we're starting to come around at the right time. We're doing it day-by-day and getting more fit."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Also scoring for NYU was sophomore Emily Dethlefs (45th place, 20:42.7) and sophomore Maggie Lalowski (47th place, 20:44.1).

- NYU's sixth finisher was junior Justine Morris (50th place, 21:01.5), while sophomore Morel Malcolmwas seventh (62nd place, 21:16.8).  

"I always want to do better and if we had our number-one person (senior co-captain Lily Corsaro) we might have done that," Boylan-Pett added. "We have some important races coming up and this is all part of the process."
