Three in Top 14 Spark Rochester to Second Place at Yellowjacket Invitational

The women's cross country team posted a strong second-place finish out of 20 teams at the UR Yellowjacket Invitational in Genesee Valley Park on Saturday morning. Rochester trailed only Division-I Cornell in team scoring.
 
Rochester showed great balance with three individuals in the top 15 – a strong statement when Cornell had 10 of the first 11 through the chute and 12 of the first 14.
 
The Yellowjackets finished with 87 points, finishing narrowly ahead of RIT (89). Cortland State was fourth (126), Ithaca fifth (143), Oberlin sixth (204), Ohio Northern seventh (222), Fredonia eighth (230), Colgate ninth (232), and Hamilton 10th (284).
 
Victoria Stepanova was Rochester's top finisher (11th overall) in 22:49.8 for the 6K course. Anne Peterson was 13th in 23:02.6. Catherine Knox was 14th in 23:06.0. Audrey McCarthy and Rachel Bargabos finished with identical times to the tenth of a second (23:36.6). McCarthy was 24th, Bargabos 25th.
 
The displacers were Anya Joynt (23:45.6, 28th), and Samantha Kitchen (23:53.9, 32nd).
