The Brandeis University cross country teams successfully defended their titles in the season-opening Emmanuel Fens Classic. The 33rd-ranked women turned in a perfect score to win the meet for the third year in a row, while the men were one point shy of a top-five sweep to win their third-straight crown.
FOR THE WOMEN
- The Judges had the top five finishers in the women's race.
- Sophomore All-American Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./No. Quincy) led the way by covering the two-mile course in 11:09, eclipsing the previous course record by 37 seconds.
- Senior Kate Farrell (Windham, N.H./Windham) ran second in 11:31, followed by Emily's twin sister Julia Bryson (Quincy, Mass./No. Quincy) in third with a mark of 12:01.
- Sophomore Meaghan Barry (Marlborough, Mass./Worcester Acad.) was fourth in 12:25 and senior Ashley Piccirillo-Horan (North Granby, Mass./Granby Memorial) was fifth, rounding out the scoring in 12:28, giving the Judges a spread of 1:19 from first to fifth.
- Rookie Danielle Berteaux (Prides Crossing, Mass./Beverly) and sophomore Christine Minor (Alameda, Calif./Alameda) rounded out the top seven in seventh and ninth places, respectively, and times of 12:36 and 12:40.
