NYU Finishes Eighth at Met Championship

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's cross country team finished in eighth place at the Metropolitan Championship on Friday, October 13, at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, NY.

The Violets totaled 218 points in the 14-team race. Manhattan College won the competition with 49 points.

NYU was the only NCAA Division III team in the race.

"The primary focus of today was for those who wanted to run another race to get that in before our championship season begins," explained Head Coach Erison Hurtault.

Hannah Haley was the Violets' first runner to cross the finish line, taking 32nd place in a time of 20:00.7 over the 5K course. Right behind was Megan Davis, who completed the distance in 37th place (20:09.8).

Emily Dethlefs was next up for NYU, taking 41st place in a time of 20:21.6.

Also scoring for the Violets was Lara Dorsky (66th, 21:24.9) and Karen Yao (71st, 21:38.9).

Overall, 129 runners competed.

"Hopefully, we will continue to see improvement as we get back to training," Hurtault said. "We are off next week, so we'll look to sharpen up for our next competition."
