NYU Races at Van Cortlandt Against NCAA Division I Competition

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's cross country team traveled to the Bronx on Friday, September 8, to compete in the Columbia University Invitational at Van Cortland Park.

NYU competed against three Division I squads and finished in fourth place in the 6,000m race. Host Columbia won the event, while Cornell University and Brown University finished in second and third, respectively.

"We knew going in we were running with three tough Division I programs," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "We weren't too concerned about how we fared against them. This was strictly a test for our runners to compete against themselves on a tough course racing the full distance."

Sabrina Herrmann paced the way for NYU with a 34th-place finish. The junior posted a time of 24:05.4.

NOTABLES:

- Hannah Haley finished seconds behind Herrmann, completing the race in 24:19.5, which was good enough for 37th place.

- Finishing third, fourth and fifth for the Violets were Emily Dethlefs (24:51.0, 40th place), Megan Davis (25:01.1, 41st place) and Isabella Steains (25:25.1, 43rd place).

The Violets will return to action on Friday, September 29, when the team takes part in the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.

"We have some time away from competition now where we will train hard to be ready for a busy few weeks later in the season," added Hurtault.
