Yellowjackets See First Action of 2017 Season

Fourteen runners from the UR women's cross country team, many who were first year runners, got their first taste of 2017 cross country competition on Friday night at the College at Brockport Early Season Short Course Invitational.
 
The Yellowjackets finished in fourth place in the team scoring, accumulating 99 team points.  SUNY Geneseo was first (19 points), host Brockport ended second (67), St. John Fisher was third (87) and Nazareth rounded out the field in fifth (101).
 
Leading UR in the race was first year Danielle Bartolotta who placed 5th overall in the 93 runner field.  She completed the 4,000 meter course in 15:13.1.
 
The next Yellowjacket through the chute was first year Ximena Reyes Torres who finished 22nd in 16:01.2 while classmate Kristen Lodato ended 39th in 16:29.2.
 
Rounding out UR's top five runners were two juniors in Katie McKendrick and Madeline Hoey.  McKendrick finished 44th in 16:32.8 while Hoey crossed the stripe in 16:34.2, good for 47th place.
 
The Yellowjacket displacers were first years Elisabeth Rott in 51st (16:42.6) and first year Mereditch Ackley in 53rd (16:46.7).  Teammate Samantha Mauser ended right behind her in 54th place.  Two other runners, first year Jenna Bottone and senior Kirsten Holmberg earned top-60 finishes in 57th and 58th respectively.
