Bears Place Second at Midwest Regional Championships

The Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country program finished second at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships at Saukie Golf Course Saturday afternoon.

The WashU women placed second with 75 combined points, as University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored 59 points to snap the Bears three consecutive regional titles streak. 

Sophomore Paige Lawler led the efforts of the WashU women, as the Bears clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with a runner-up finish. Lawler led the Bears with a personal-best time of 20:46.4 to place second overall with an average pace of 5:35 per mile. She was one of 13 Bears to post personal best times during the race.

Joining Lawler on the All-Region team were senior Alison Lindsay (21:05.8) who placed seventh, senior Audrey Western (21:22.6) who placed 14th, sophomore Sophie Watterson (21:29.5) who placed 18th and freshman Lara Rix (21:56.4) who placed 34th.
