NYU Competes at Connecticut College Invitational

The New York University 20th-ranked women's across country team raced at the Connecticut College Invitational in New London, Connecticut, on Saturday.

The Violets finished sixth out of 22 universities in the women's 6K Blue Race.

Viv Kane captured the individual title in the 6K, winning in 21:18.30 to beat second-place Genna Girard of Williams College en route to claiming her second victory of the season. Grace Richardson also placed in the top 10, finishing seventh with a time of 21:54.70. 

Janie Cooper clocked 22:37.70 in 34th place and Daniela Sekhar finished 61st in 23:07.30, a personal best by 13 seconds. She was followed by Leah Haley at 23:11.10 in 67th place to round out NYU's scorers in the 6K. 

"I am extremely proud of the women's team's effort today," said Head Coach Tyler Deck Shipley. "On days like today, it is very clear that they are running and racing for each other. The team's performance was punctuated by Viv winning in a loaded field with several nationally-ranked teams."

Other top-20 teams competing included #6 MIT (1st place), #8 Amherst (4th place), #13 Tufts (9th place), #16 Williams (3rd place), and #19 Bates (5th place).
