UChicago Takes Runner-up Spot at NCAA Midwest Regional

In the last meet before NCAA nationals, the University of Chicago cross country teams put together standout performances at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday.

On the women's side, the top two ranked teams in the nation faced off and finished neck-and-neck. Wartburg College won with 36 points and UChicago was runner-up with 45 points in the 29-team field.

All seven Maroon women's runners achieved All-Region status after placing in the top 35 of the 6K race. Anna Kenig-Ziesler and Maddie Kelly crossed the line simultaneously at 22:03.6. Kenig-Ziesler was credited with fourth place while Kelly was fifth. Lucy Groothuis claimed seventh in 22:09.3. The remaining four runners all placed in the top 20 – Katarina Birimac (14th), Sophie Tedesco (15th), Frances Schaeffler (17th) and Caitlin Jorgensen (19th).
