Bears Place Third in Top-25 Showdown at Augustana Invitational

The nationally ranked Washington University in St. Louis cross country team finished third at the 40th Annual Brissman-Lundeen Invite in Rock Island, Ill. on Saturday after another solid performance, which included a plethora of new career-best individual marks.

In a highly competitive field with four of the nation's top-10 nationally ranked programs and seven teams in the top-25, the No. 7 women's squad finished with 97 team points for a third-place overall finish out of 25 teams. 

The Bears finished Saturday's race with five runners in the top-30 out of 244 total runners. 
 
Senior Emily Konkus paced the Bears with another team-best individual finish in fourth (21:11.4), marking a new career-best mark. In addition, Konkus has finished inside the top-five in all three races she has competed in thus far in 2022.
 
The next highest finisher for the Bears was senior Lindsay Ott (8th place), who tallied a time of 21:34.3, as she also set a new career personal best. Through three races in 2022, Ott has also been a key runner for the Bears, finishing inside the top-10 in each competition. 
 
First-year Katie Rector clocked in at 22:02.6 which was good for a 26th place finish. Rector has improved her time in each race this season, setting a new season-best mark on Saturday. 
 
Behind Rector was both Avery McCammon and Ella Behrens, who had great efforts finishing neck-and-neck at 22:11.2 and 22:12.2 for 29th and 30th place overall. Furthermore, both McCammon and Behrens also ran to new personal-best marks on Saturday to round out the Bears' scoring for the meet. 
 
Also setting career-best marks for the Bears were Julia Patterson, who finished in 45th at 22:32.6 and Marlee Fradkin, who finished with a time of 22:37.2 in 51st place.
