Emory Men Finish Third, Women Fourth at Stan Sims Opener

The Eagles men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Acworth, Georgia for the Kennesaw State 5k Stan Sims Opener meet Friday evening, with several new faces leading the charge. As a team, the men finished third of five teams, while the women finished fourth out of six teams.

Graduate transfer Brigid Hanley led the way for the Eagles' women's team, finishing 8th out of 81 total runners with an impressive time of 17:44.54 in her first meet as an Eagle. Junior Liesl Scherrer made her way into the top-15 for the women as well, with a time of 18:00.41.

Emory saw three more runners finish in the top half of the meet, with sophomore Katherine Kennedy, freshman Payton Fleming, and sophomore Luna McCauley all turning in impressive times.

A pair of freshmen made their college debuts for the men's team and turned in top-30 finishes. Freshman Kirin Karver posted a men's team best time at 15:18.31 in his first collegiate meet, placing 20th overall in the men's race. Fellow freshman, Ezra Shilling-Rabin also finished with an impressive 28th place finish in his first collegiate action with a time of 15:31.94.

On top of the two freshmen, the men had eight additional runners finish in the top 45 of all runners. Juniors Jonathan Orelowitz and David Evans finished led the upperclassmen, finishing 25th and 26th respectively.
