The Violets placed first out of six teams with a score of 25 in the 3k race.

Host Vassar finished second with 33 points.

Freshman Josephine Dziedzic placed first of the 59 runners in her collegiate debut with an NYU record-setting time of 10:52.1, besting the old mark of 10:52.2 set by Viv Kane at last year's Vassar College Season Starter.

NYU had three more top-10 finishers, as sophomore Lucy Gott placed 2nd with a time of 10:57.6, followed closely by freshman Olivia Jackson in 4th (10:57.7) and freshman Virginia Nelson in 5th (11:00.7).

Rounding out the top-20 for NYU, sophomore Emily Castles finished in 14th (11:24.3), freshman Caroline MacKinnon was 17th (11:45.9) and sophomore Ariya Mathrawala took 20th (11:50.7).

"The team did a really good job running as a pack," said Head Coach Tyler Deck Shipley. "We definitely took a couple solid steps forward and we're excited for the rest of the season."

MEN

The Violets placed fourth out of seven teams with a score of 75 in the 4k race.

Host Vassar finished first with 31 points.

Senior Jon Diaz was the first Violet to complete the race, running a time of 12:41.7 to land in 10th out of the 64 runners competing.

NYU had three more top-20 finishers, as freshman Alex Hrycysyzn ended close behind Diaz in 11th (12:42.1), sophomore Brandon Meiner took 18th (12:59.2), and sophomore Jake Chang was 19th (13:00.5).

"It was great to get the season started over 4k. A lot of the men ran significantly faster than they did a year ago and it was great to see the newcomers in the purple singlet for the first time," said Head Coach Tyler Deck Shipley.
