WashU Teams Claim Greenville Dual Victory to Begin Season

The Washington University in St. Louis women's and men's cross country teams opened the new academic year as host of the Greenville Dual.

The men competed in a 6,000m race, while the women tackled the 4,170m course at Forest Park. First-year Amelie Maltz, in her first collegiate race, secured first for the women's team as she crossed the finish line with a time of 15:46.7, while sophomore Conor Daly claimed the men's title with his time of 18:57.1, 6.8 seconds clear of the rest of the field, while  
 
The WashU women's and men's team won the dual by each notching 15 points. Both of Greenville University's teams hauled in 50 points.  
 
For the women, nine Bears crossed the finish line before GU recorded an official time. After Maltz tabbed the victory, sophomore Macy Iyer finished in second, just 0.1 seconds behind Maltz, with a time of 15:46.8. Sophomore Riley Clark welcomed a third-place mark with her time of 15:46.8.  
 
Sophomore Kristin Loftus (15:47.3), sophomore Cate Stevens (15:47.4), and first-year Caroline Echols (15:47.9) finished fourth-sixth, respectively. 
 
On the men's side, WashU secured the first 10 finishing positions. Behind Daly, sophomore Alexander Bullard claimed second (19:03.9), with senior Micah Benson (19:13.9) rounding out the top three. Sophomore Maxwell Latshaw (19:13.9), senior Jack Maranz (19:29.8), and freshman Russell Kramer (19:46.7) finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.
