NYU Women's Fencing Competes at Sacred Heart University

The New York University women's fencing team competed in the Sacred Heart Tradition Tournament, hosted by Sacred Heart University, on Sunday, December 8, in Fairfield, CT.

The Violets finished 1-5 on the day..

NYU defeated Vassar College 15-12 in its first match, but then fell to Princeton University 25-2, Temple University 25-2, Penn State University 24-3, Harvard University 24-3, and host Sacred Heart 15-12.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Jess Shermancompiled the best record for the women, finishing with a 6-10 mark in epee.

- Jessica Sherman beat Anna Van Brummen, who was a member of the 2013 US Junior World Team

- The Violets are now 2-6 this season.

"This was an opportunity to fence against some of the top Division I teams in the nation," said Head Coach Steve Mormando. "There were some good results that will help our fencers in their attempt to qualify for Nationals later this season."

The Violets return to team competition when they host the NYU Invitational at the Coles Sports Center on Saturday, January 25.
