The New York University women's fencing team hosted three
teams on Tuesday night, February 10, at the Coles Sports Center in
Manhattan.
The Violets defeated Vassar College 16-11, but fell to
Division I Sacred Heart University 19-8 and to Division I Columbia
University 19-8.
NYU is now 3-20 this season.
The Violets' foil team posted a 5-4 victory in its match-up with
Columbia, as captain Audra Fox went 2-1
against her Lion opponents. On the evening, Fox posted a 5-4
record.
"Audra did a fantastic job tonight against some very strong
opponents," explained Head Coach Steve
Mormando.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Marissa Posner also posted five
victories for the Violets on Tuesday night, going 5-2 in epee.
"Marissa continues to be one of our top fencers," Mormando added.
"She was very strong tonight."
- Cydney Williams led the sabre team with a
4-4 record.
- The epee team posted a 7-2 win and the sabre squad went 5-4
against Vassar.
- The NYU victory against Vassar snapped a five-match losing
streak.
The dual-meet portion of the 2014-15 season is now complete.
