NYU Competes at Eric Sollee Invitational

The New York University women's fencing team competed at the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University, on Saturday, January 30, in Waltham, MA.

The Violets (4-10) posted a 2-4 record on the day, defeating Haverford College (21-6) and Hunter College (23-4), while falling to Boston College (17-10), Brown University (15-12), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (17-10), and host Brandeis (15-12).

"Overall, the women had a good day. We're really starting to see everyone come into their own," said NYU Head Coach Steve Mormando.

Individually, NYU was led by Anastasiya Muravyeva and Alisa Traskunov in foil. Muravyeva led the Violets with a team-best 14 wins (14-4 overall), while Traskunov (11-6) notched NYU's second-highest win total.

"Anastasiya and Alisa were fantastic today," continued Mormando. "We are definitely building something great with this team for the future."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Cydney Williams (9-5), Maria Free (9-5) and Jacqueline Tubbs (8-3) led NYU in sabre.

- Hannah Bennett (9-7) led the Violets in epee. Stephanie Cunningham (7-7) also performed well in epee.
