Brandeis Finishes 6-1 at First Northeast Conference Meet of Season

The Brandeis University fencing team opened its dual meet season today with the first of two Northeast Fencing Conference meets, held at Brown University.

The top winner on the women's side was sophomore sabrist Jada Harrison (Jericho, N.Y./Jericho), who led the team with 16 wins, going 3-0 in four of her seven matches and 2-1 in one more.

The foil squad produced two of the top three winning percentages for the women, with rookie Ivanna Zavala (E. Setauket, N.Y. / Ward-Melville) going 12-0 across four matches for the only undefeated performance of the day, while senior co-captain Jessica Gets (Morganville, N.J. / Freehold Township) was 14-1 in five matches, including a 2-1 mark against Wellesley and 3-0 against MIT. Another rookie, Maggie Shealy (Chapel Hill, N.C. / E. Chapel Hill) also lost just one match, going 13-1 in sabre action.
