Likins Cements Her Placing in Record Book after Two Home Run Day

Heidi Likins
Senior Heidi Likins' 15 career home runs will put her atop the program's
record book for career home runs.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior Heidi Likins hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in Wooster's first game against Case Western Reserve University on Monday and now sits alone atop the program's career home run leaderboard with 15.

However, her offense wasn't enough in game one as Case bested Wooster 11-8. The Spartans then earned the sweep with a 12-4 six-inning win in game two.

Likins entered tied with Marina Roski at 13 home runs. She smacked her first in the second inning to score Katie Agatucci and made it a 2-1 game.

In the third, Agatucci was walked to load the bases, and Likins took a 0-1 count over the left center field fence for the grand slam.

That made it a 7-2 game, and the Scots only expanded that lead with a solo home run in the fourth from senior Emmalee Cooke.

Unfortunately, the wheels fell off in the fifth and sixth innings. Wooster went down in order in both innings, while Case's Liv Thomas hit a two-run home run to cap a five-run fifth inning.

In the sixth, Case tied the game and then took the lead for good with four runs in the inning.

Likins finished 2-for-3 with six RBI to lead the Wooster offense. Cooke and Brooke Swain each went 2-for-4, while Stephanie Griffin recorded the team's other RBI on a fielder's choice.

Senior Olivia Johnson took the loss on the mound but was only credited with four earned runs.

In game two, Case's offense kept rolling with 12 runs on 11 hits in six innings.

Wooster struck first as Agatucci was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Case went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning but scored in every inning after.

Wooster collected just five hits. Cooke went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Heidi Likins went 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI, and Molly Likins was 1-for-1 with two walks.

Case's Sidney Brannam won her 22nd game of the year which was a single season program record for the Spartans.

Wooster's Marissa Norgrove took the loss, giving up just five earned runs in 4.1 innings. Rachael Dudziak pitched 1.1 innings and gave up two runs.

Case improves to 27-9 with the two wins while Wooster drops to 22-10 to conclude the season.

Of note, Heidi Likins' 39 RBI is a new single season record. Her 80 career RBI is third all-time.

Swain and Molly Likins end the year each with 36 runs, which is a program single season record. Swain's 29 stolen bases is also atop the single season list.

Cooke was hit by four pitches this season, tying her total in 2018 - both single season records. Her 11 is the most in a career. Her 86 runs scored is second all-time.

Johnson's 35 wins is also third all-time and her .600 winning percentage puts her at the top.
