(WHITTIER, Calif.) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team dropped two games at Whittier College on Wednesday, March 9, by 2-1 and 2-0 scores after bats were shutdown by the pitching staffs of each team. The Tartans are now 5-6 for the season and will resume play in California on Friday, March 11.
Game 1 - L, 2-1
Sophomore Amanda Smith (New Cumberland, Pa. / Trinity) and freshman Olivia Van Zandt (Tampa, Fla. / Robinson) each gave up two hits in the circle for the Tartans with Whittier scoring two in the third inning before holding on to the lead for the 2-1 win. The Tartans only had four hits with two coming off the bat of junior Emily Finger (Aurora, Ill. / Metea Valley). The lone run for the Tartans came in the fifth inning when junior Tessa Bruneau (Edgewater Park, N.J. / Holy Cross Prep) reached on a fielding error that ended up scoring freshman Abbey Reese (Whitehall, Pa. / Whitehall) from second.
