#22 Tartans Open Dual Season with 9-0 Victory Versus Oberlin

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 22nd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team hosted Oberlin College on a mild winter day outside on its campus courts on Saturday, February 3, winning the match by a 9-0 score. It was the first dual match of the season for both teams.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans started with an 8-2 win at number one doubles from the freshmen pair of Raghav Jangbahadur and Daniel Kong.
  • The number two doubles team of sophomore Akshay Joshi and senior Derek Wong then won 8-6 ahead of senior Nicholas Wernink and freshman Theodore Gershon at number three doubles, who won 8-3.
  • Needing five points to seal the win, Kong was the first to finish singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 score in the second position to make it 4-0 in favor of the Tartans.
  • Junior Chaitanya Irkar then sealed the team victory with a 6-1, 6-1 score at number six singles.
  • The final order of finish in singles play was 2-6-5-1-3-4.

Notes

  • Jangbahadur won his first number one singles match of his career with a 6-2, 6-0 score and is now 11-1 in singles play this year.
