#15 Tartans End UAA Play With a Split

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team continued University Athletic Association (UAA) action at Case Western Reserve University with two matches on Sunday in the final Round Robin of the season and split a pair of matches. The Tartans started play Sunday with a 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-17, 26-24) win over New York University, before dropping a 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-15) contest to Washington University in St. Louis. The Tartans are now 16-5 overall and 4-3 in UAA play.

In the win over NYU, four Tartans, senior Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) along with sophomores Carrie Stewart (Victor, N.Y./Victor), Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) and Erin Westberg (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons), each had eight kills to lead the Tartans. For Westberg, it marked a career-best. Senior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) and freshman Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) accounted for 38 of the Tartans 40 assists with So-Holloway recording 22 and Yan 16.

Senior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) tabbed a team-best 16 digs and junior Diana Balta (Media, Pa./Penncrest) added 11.

In the setback to the Bears, Balta led with 13 kills while Foose had 10 and hit .444. So-Holloway and Yan each handed out 18 assists. Yew finished with 19 digs and So-Holloway and Balta had 13 and 11, respectively.

The Tartans will continue play on Saturday, October 26 with a 12:00 p.m. contest at Westminster College.
