Scots Fall 5-4 to Case in Late Friday Match

Materick The College of Wooster women's tennis team fell 5-4 in a Friday night matchup against Case Western Reserve University.

Wooster took a lone doubles win at the No. 3 flight as Katie Materick and Kim Nguyen won 8-7 (3) against Shreyaa Mukund and Chloe Ku.

The No. 1 team of Abby Kushner Benson and Cherry Patlolla fell 8-0, and the No. 2 team of Janaki Jagannathan and Otilia Oita lost 8-3.

Case sealed the win by taking the first three decisions in singles play at the one, two and six flights. Oita fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Patlolla took a 6-1, 6-1 loss at No. 2 and Abby Aitken fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.

Jagannathan gave Wooster its first singles win at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Later, Materick won 6-3, 6-2 over Mukund at the No. 5 flight.

Finally to wrap up the night, Nguyen won a super tiebreaker in the No. 4 flight after falling in the first set 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (5).

Case moves to 8-1 on the year. Wooster falls to 3-5.

The Scots return home Saturday to host Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m. at the Aspen Racquet Club.
