Scots Get a Point Against 17th-Ranked Case

CLEVELAND – Junior Janaki Jagannathan gave Wooster its lone point Friday in an 8-1 defeat to 17th-ranked Case Western Reserve University.

The Scots entered at a disadvantage as a late scratch left them unable to compete in the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles flights. However, Jagannathan was able to surprise the Spartans with a win in the No. 2 singles flight.

She came back to defeat Chloe Ku, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8), finishing the rally after a 10-8 super tiebreaker in the third set.

Senior Otilia Oita put up a battle in the No. 1 flight but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-2 to Katalina Wang.

The pair of Oita and Jagannathan also had a challenge in doubles play, falling 8-0 in the No. 1 flight to Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloksey. The duo from Case entered the season ranked 18th as a pair nationally.

Wooster's No. 2 team of Abby Aitken and Lauren Richmond also went down 8-0.

Richmond took a game in her No. 4 singles flight falling 6-0, 6-1. However, Aitken at No. 3 and Margaret Steward at No. 5 each went down 6-0, 6-0, respectively.

That was Case's first match of the spring, while Wooster falls to 1-2. The Scots return to action on Saturday with a trip to Kalamazoo College.
