#18 Tartans Win Five-Set Match at Westminster

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – The 18th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team traveled north for a dual match against Westminster College on Saturday. After dropping the first two sets, the Tartans rattled off three straight set win to leave with a 3-2 (22-25, 25-27, 19-25, 21-25, 15-9) decision and improve to 17-5 overall.

Carnegie Mellon was led by seniors Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) and Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. The two were also dominate at the net, as Aqui posted six block assists and Foose tabbed five.

Senior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) and freshman Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) accounted for 44 of the Cardinal and Gray's 54 assists with So-Holloway leading with 27.

Senior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) finished with 33 digs, one less than her season-high. Three other Tartans recorded double-digit digs, junior Julie Kim (Centreville, Va./Chantilly) had a career-best 17, Yan 15 and So-Holloway ended with 10.

The Tartans will continue play on Friday, November 1 with a 3:00 p.m. contest against Hiram College on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium.
