#15 Tartans End NCAA Run in Third Round

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis hosted top ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the third round of 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship Saturday afternoon and dropped a 5-1 match to the Athenas. The Tartans move to 14-7 with CMS moving to 24-1.
How it Happened:
- CMS led 2-1 following doubles play claiming points at the first and third spots.
- Sophomore Anna Chow and sophomore Divya Venkatarama recorded the Tartans double point with an 8-7 (5) win at second doubles.
- The Athenas took points at six, four and two singles to clinch the victory.
- Junior Sarah Yang won her first set at first singles 6-4, before trailing 3-2 in the one spot when play stopped.
- Sophomore Anika Joshi played fifth singles and forced a third set when play was stopped winning 6-4 in the second.
Notes
- Chow and Venkatarama finish the season at 8-1in dual matches at second doubles.
- This marked the sixth straight year that the Cardinal and Gray appeared in the NCAA Championship and 18th in program history.
- It was also the 16th time in program history that the Tartans at least reached the third round.
