DANVILLE, Ky. — Following a scoreless first half against Emory (Ga.) on Saturday, the Ohio Northern women's soccer team surrendered three goals over the final 45 minutes in a 3-1 loss in the opening round of the Centre (Ky.) Tournament at Amend Field.
The loss dropped the Polar Bears to 0-1-1 on the season while improving the Eagles' record to 2-0.
Emory got off a bevy of shots in the game — 22, including 13 on goal — while Northern tallied six, four of which were on target. The Eagles out-shot the Polar Bears 14-2 in the first half and 8-4 in the second.
ONU's lone goal of the game came via sophomore Alaina Casey (Beavercreek/Carroll), who was assisted by sophomore Jill Roberts (Bellbrook/Carroll).
That goal came roughly seven minutes after the Eagles had scored 6:29 into the second half courtesy of Molly Miller.
Fewer than 10 minutes later, a goal from Samantha Hilsee put Emory up 2-1.
Hilsee added another goal to her tally with just under 20 minutes remaining on a penalty kick following one of ONU's eight fouls in the game.
The Polar Bears got off three shots over the final five minutes but were unable to convert on any of those chances.
ONU senior goalkeeper Kristy Catrine (Springboro), who played just under 77 minutes of the game, finished with nine saves before being replaced by junior Becky Moss (Lebanon/Mount Notre Dame).
The loss moved the Polar Bears into the tournament's consolation game at 11 a.m. on Sunday against North Central (Ill.), as the Cardinals fell 2-0 to tournament host No. 19 Centre (Ky.) in Saturday's other semifinal.
