Men's Basketball Wins Bill Sudeck Tournament to Start Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball started their season on the road on Saturday and Sunday as they took part in the Bill Sudeck Tournament, hosted by Case Western Reserve University. After a dominating win over CWRU in their season opener, the Blugolds were crowned tournament champions with a 67-51 win over Ohio Northern University. Brock Voight (Jr. – Sun Prairie, WI) was named Tournament MVP and Michael Casper was named to the All-Tournament team.

The first game of the weekend showcased dominate performances from Brock Voight (Jr. – Sun Prairie, WI) and Cade Hall (So. – Mauston, WI) to lead the Blugolds to an 88-74 victory. Voight's 27 points and 11 rebounds led both Eau Claire and CWRU for the game. Hall tallied 11 of his 20 points scored in the first half.

The Blugolds shot 58.6% from the hardwood in the second half to seal their 14-point win.

In the tournament final, UWEC faced off against the Polar Bears from Ohio Northern University on Sunday. Eau Claire outscored their opponents 36-19 in the first half with Carter Brooks (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/North) leading the way with a game total of 17 points and nine rebounds. The 18-point win earned UWEC a 2-0 start to the year and honors as tournament champions.

The Blugolds will be back on the road on Tuesday, November 16th when they travel to St. Paul, MN to take on the University of Northwestern-St. Paul at 7 PM.
