FSC Softball Spring Break Update - Rams Earn Three Wins

Clermont, Fla. - The Farmingdale State softball team has played four games at The Spring Games down in Florida. FSC picked up wins against Smith, NYU and Edgewood. The Rams began their trip on Saturday, March 12th with 10 scheduled games.

Farmingdale State has six more games on their Spring Break trip and will next play McDaniel and Hamilton on Wednesday, March 16th starting at 9:30 a.m.

Sunday, March 13th

Farmingdale State earned a 9-1 win over Smith on Sunday before falling to Wisconsin-River Falls, 10-2.

FSC and the Pioneers were tied at 1-1 in the second inning before Rams' Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.) and Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) notched RBI singles.

After scoring three unearned runs in the fourth, FSC used RBI's from Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.), Stanya and Shaw to go ahead 9-1 and clinch the run-rule win.

Shaw was a homerun shy of the cycle as she went 4-for-4 with a walk, three runs batted in and two runs scored. Stanya had two hits, two runs and two RBI's, while freshman first baseman Brooke Walker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI's and a run scored. Capuano and freshman right fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.) had two hits apiece in the win.

In the second game of the day, Wisconsin-River Falls scored nine runs in the first inning en route to the 10-2 victory. 

Giliberti and Stanya each recorded two hits in the loss.

Monday, March 14th

The softball team won both of their late night games against New York University, 10-4, and Edgewood, 10-5, on Monday.

Farmingdale State fell behind, 4-0, against the Violets before scoring four runs in the third, including a two-run double by Walker, to tie the game up. 

The Rams took the lead in the fourth after Shaw and sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) hit back-to-back doubles.

FSC extended their lead to 10-4 with five runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Stanya (W, 2-0) shut the door in the bottom of the inning to earn the complete game victory.

Senior shortstop Jessica Clark (Selden, N.Y.) led the way as she went 3-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Shaw notched three hits and two runs, while Walker had two hits, a walk and two RBI's. Rivera, Giliberti and sophomore second baseman Julianna Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) each recorded an RBI and a run scored.

In game two, the Rams scored four runs in both the first and second innings to jump out to an 8-0 advantage over Edgewood. Shaw hit a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the first before Walker, Giliberti and Capuano came around to score to go on top, 4-0.

In the second inning, Walker, Giliberti and Prescia each tallied RBI's to give FSC the 8-0 advantage. 

The Eagles closed within 8-4 in the fourth, but the Rams responded with a pair of runs in the fifth in regain a six-run lead.

Freshman Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y.) (W, 1-1) allowed just one run in the final three innings as Farmingdale State went on for the 10-5 win.

Shaw finished 3-for-3 with a homerun, double, walk, RBI and three runs scored, while Walker had three hits, a walk, two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Shorr picked up her first collegiate win as she tossed a complete game, allowing just two earned runs while striking out six.
