Men's Tennis Drops Two to Carnegie Mellon as Season Gets Underway

The College of Wooster men's tennis team opened the season with a pair of 7-2 losses to Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday.

In the first match, the Scots got wins in the final two singles flights. Nebyou Minassie needed three sets to win in the fifth flight 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Then in the sixth set, Shivam Dewan won a third set tiebreaker for the win 7-6, 4-6, 1-0.

Austin Hanna's No. 2 singles match also came down to an abbreviated third set, but he fell on the losing end 4-6, 6-1, 1-0.

In the second match, Wooster was able to capture one of the doubles matches as Hanna and Joaquin Abos Amo won the first flight 8-7.

The Scots then again took the No. 6 singles flight. This time Connor Streeter came away with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 win.

Hanna saw another three set decision not go his way as he suffered a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 loss in the No. 2 flight. Alex Drewes faced the same outcome in the third flight. After winning the first set, he ultimately fell 5-7, 6-0, 1-0.

The Scots will jump right into conference play their next time out when they travel to Denison University for two matches on April 3.
